What to Consider When Choosing a Laptop
The introduction of the laptop has transformed our potential for mobile working. There are many manufacturers making many different models of laptop. Because of this, it is important to have a good understand of your requirements.
One of the main features which a buyer should look upon is the screen size. If you are used to large monitors and are going for an entertainment packed laptop for movies and gaming, the larger screen size becomes a necessity. The regular size available today is 15” but giants like dell and Compaq even offer 19”. Laptops are also available with widescreen.
The processor is one of the most important parts of the laptop. The major companies in processor production, Intel and AMD offer from single core to dual cores. These days even core2 duo and quad cores are available. So choose the processor according to your needs and budget.
The size of the RAM can have an effect of the speed and number of concurrent applications that can be run at once. Because of this, it is important to get as much RAM as you can afford. Most laptops come with at least 1GB - 2GB which is sufficient for general usage.
Hard disk space varies from around 150GB to over 300GB. If you are going to be storing a lots of movies, music and photos, it would be worth considering something closer to 300GB. Will you be taking the laptop on meetings and trips or will it just be used at home. This should be taken into account so that you can consider the weight of the laptop that you will choose.
Make sure that the laptop has sufficient expansion slots. At least 3 USB ports will be extremely useful as they are used to connect to external devices such as mp3 players and cameras. In built Wi-Fi support is also worth considering to enable you to connect to wireless networks. It is also worth paying the extra for a battery with a larger capacity. This will benefit you when you are not close to an electricity mains.
If you take these factors into consideration before you visit a store, it will be easier for you to choose the best machine for your needs.
